The Art of Acting Human
«All the world is a stage. And all the men and women merely players.» This is the never ending simulation we live in. Theatre is the original virtual reality machine. And the actors are avatars. This talk will explore the idea how theatre can function as a self-reflexive machine that questions the very nature of the 'human game'.
Director Susanne Kennedy responds to the new balance of power between bodies, technical objects and machines with an aesthetic that is beyond the human. Distorted by masks, playback dialogue, doppelgängers and multimedia, the actors confront the audience with a post-humanistic subjectivity. In January 2020, Susanne Kennedy and Markus Selg designed a model for the creation of a world at the Volksbühne Berlin. «ULTRAWORLD» investigates consciousness as a virtual construction of the world and simulates the transformation of the human being within it. In June 2020 they were able to show «Oracle» at the Münchner Kammerspiele just after the lockdown ended in Germany. «Oracle» is an installation that can be visited individually and explores the transformative power of an oracle using artificial intelligence.
