Digital Patina
Visual narratives of digital usage
«Digital Patina» is a theory, an experiment and interface at the same time that questions digital traces. In contrary to the widespread assumption that data has no aesthetics, «Digital Patina» transfers the logic of analogue traces into the digital context by giving digital data analogue forms: of wear, of use and of ageing - a «Digital Patina» emerges. It intuitively conveys the mechanisms of the user data collection and creates a new mediation for it. An aesthetic that does more than just serve its own purpose. «Digital Patinas» are visual narratives of digital usage. The aim is to sensitize the user for a more responsible handling of one's own data material. A new culture of data is created by observing and influencing one‘s own data traces.
