Ways into Being

Dripped Dreams examines the tension between geological formation and human fabrication. The project draws its conceptual and methodological inspiration from the natural phenomena of stalagmite formations, where the consistent drip and subsequent accumulation of mineral-rich waters in caves result in the creation of unique formations.

Using a mixture of construction sand by-products, salt, and a plant-based binder, the project employs a controlled dripping process to generate forms. Material is gradually deposited and accumulated, allowing structures to emerge over time. Composed with a water-soluble binder, the resulting objects remain temporary.

Studio Eidola, founded in 2020 in Zürich by Denizay Apusoglu and Jonas Kissling, operates at the intersection of material research and design, engaging with industrial by-products to reconsider systems of production and discard. Focused on mineral waste, the studio collaborates with local industries to trace material histories and reframe their potential. Through objects, spatial interventions, and alternative building materials, their work questions linear models of use and extraction, proposing new material narratives that emphasize reuse and the evolving life cycles of matter.
